Insects (PETI) have filed suit in US district court against automaker Lexus Motors for their alleged abuse of a flying insect in recent television ads. | | | PETI spokesman, Pat Hogue, stated that the $500 million in damages sought would be used to encourage more insect activity in north America. "Insect
populations throughout the continent are at an all time low and we must take action or various insect borne diseases will become extinct" cites Hogue. "Malaria, Diphtheria and Plague are all important life forms in our ecosystem, without which our world would be very different" he adds.Jim Grey, of Lexus of Dallas commented "Lexus is keenly aware of the plight of insects and is currently engaged in a five year plan to make their cars more insect friendly". PETI has recently
published a report detailing how slowly manufacturers have been to adopt their voluntary insect accessibility standards. "Few companies have even enacted the basic items, let alone added the proposed stagnant water tray" says Hogue. US Presidential candidate Al Gore, who claims to be the founder of PETI was unable to comment on the suit. | |
