The Wood Part Begins --- Flooring (mid July 2000)

The floor joists that form the floor system for the new bedroom start to give
a closed-in
feel to the future furnace room. 3/4 inch
"tongue-in-groove" OSB flooring atop 2 x 10
boards makes for a sturdy floor. This also assures the addition
floor will be at the
same level as that of the main house-- an important aspect to consider.

The left photo shows the view from the old main entry door of the house
looking south.
As you can see, we took a few breaks on our new "deck" in those yellow
chairs.
The right photo shows the view from the house deck looking north. You
can see the
woodpile in what will be the garage has gotten a bit smaller. Most of the
boards shown
still on the stack are for the ceiling joists and rafters. The 2 x 6
boards for the walls
are in the driveway and hard to make out in this photo.

The view of the completed floor deck from the driveway finally gives you a
good
idea of what might be coming. The unusual added layer of concrete blocks
around the
future garage still has many people confused, however. The added layers of
block were
added due to the eventual grade of the driveway dirt so that the wood in the
walls will
be the required distance above ground level. The entire project is
on a natural slope
which made for some interesting design considerations. This is NOT an easy
addition!

This is the view from down the driveway looking north at the future furnace
room.
The siding on the house on the west wall (which you see) will soon be coming
down and
put in storage for reapplication to some of the walls later in the
project.
